Their Session: In Home, Morristown, NJ

It’s always SUCH a dream getting to photograph friends! I was so honored when Nicole and Alec asked me to document this exciting time in their lives. Their cozy in-home maternity session was the perfect way to kick off 2025. I’ve never had a January 1st session – such a fun start to the new year!

Alec and my husband, Shawn, have been friends since childhood! Getting to know Nicole over the last few years has been so sweet. We’ve seen these two go from dating to married to expecting their little one! We can’t wait to see them become the most incredible parents.

Of course, Pauly, their first baby, was the star of the show!! He was all about posing for the camera and being a part of the session. I love in home sessions with pups because they’re in their most comfortable space. They can pop in and out of the pictures whenever they’re feeling up for it, and we don’t have to force them to act for the camera. It’s the most natural way to include your furbaby in your pictures! <3

Some highlights that made this cozy in-home maternity session extra perfect were:

Great natural lighting: their living room had plenty of big windows to bring in light!
Neutral color palette and home decor: the overall soft tones of their space made the editing cohesive and natural. The pops of color from their Christmas decor stood out without feeling overwhelming to the space!
Simple activities: we didn’t plan anything ahead of time, but being in their own space allowed us to envision an ideal ‘Sunday Morning’ vibe. Their favorite show, The Sopranos, was on in the background, which brought them comfort and calm. They could lounge on their couch, sip coffee, and play with Pauly like they would on a cozy morning!
Props: again, we didn’t plan any props in advance, but once we started photographing, the Christmas tree and decor became natural props to work with. They also had cute baby onesies, books, and decor that we could incorporate!
