Their Elopement Day: Umpachene Falls Park, New Marlborough, Massachusetts

This incredible couple landed in my inbox and truly lit up my entire summer. August was really booked up already for me, but Devony and Erik reached out telling me how they were open to any date I was available that month. I just knew we had to make this trip to Massachusetts happen no matter what! We landed on a Tuesday, and it couldn’t have been more perfect! They just wanted to marry the love of their life amongst nature and close friends. My heart jumped out of my chest the more we chatted about their plans. Everything these two were saying about their big day sounded like a dream.

Intimate. Secluded. Nature. Emotion. So much emotion. It was such an incredible day from the moment we arrived to the sun setting behind them at the falls.

After meeting Devony and Erik over video chat for the first time and hearing their story, I could tell that their friends and family must feel so lucky to know them. These two light up a room together so easily. Their love and connection is magic to witness, and I’m grateful I got to capture a piece of that.

Their Love Story

They met in Katonah, New York on a Sunday night. Devony had just finished a big concert week in NYC (they’re both Opera singers!), and I was the last cast member to arrive on their gig at Caramoor Center for the Arts. She walked into their accommodations to the other three cast members sitting around the couch hanging out. All she remembers about that night is laughing a lot as she got to know the other singers and also that she noticed a very handsome, bearded, low-voiced man with a hot tattoo sitting on the couch. They didn’t get much 1-on-1 interaction that night, but the next morning he came and sat with her during their breakfast hour and the rest is kind of history.

Erik told me, “I thought she was EXTRAORDINARY… I asked her out to dinner during our week together. She turned me down, and left me with a donor. The nerve. I knew she’d marry me eventually. Maybe not first marriage, but she did look at me like ‘You could be the second or third one.'” He knew ;)!

These two crack me up and are the most incredible storytellers out there – I was so mesmerized by the way they play off of each other so well! Devony and Erik love to go to Fort Tryon Park together, it’s their favorite date place and was the location of their first date, actually! Erik says, “that’s the place I KNEW I was in love with her. It was horrible. What the actual heck was I supposed to do, falling in love with somebody as amazing as this? True crisis point. But the park is nice.” These twooooo! <3

Devony says, “OH MAN. It’s just amazing to be totally happy and totally peaceful even when life is completely insane and unbearable. I did not believe in soulmates before I met Erik. He is my soulmate and I am so excited to live life with him–the good and the bad.” Erik says, “I have never once felt safer in somebody else’s care than in my own. Dev has shown me that there is a stronger person in the world than me. Spending each day with Dev is educational. Every day she teaches me something I didn’t know before. I pride myself on being the most prepared, most read, most trained, most considerate person in any room I walk into. My favorite part about being with Dev is that she beats me every time. She is who I aspire to be, and I’m grateful to bear witness to her superlative example.”

This day is truly unmatched. I look at these images and my jaw drops at how gorgeous it was from the relaxed atmosphere to the stunning surroundings. Your calmness and ease on your wedding day just showed so much clarity and certainty – you were both just so ready to finally be married. <3 Thank you for including me on this adventure. I’ll forever look back on this Tuesday in August with stars in my eyes and a grateful heart! Love you both so much! xo
