Their Session: Center City Philadelphia, PA

Rachel and Ty’s summer Philadelphia anniversary session was an incredibly special evening as Rachel and Ty are one of my 2019 wedding couples! Now, they’re celebrating 5 years married! It’s such an joy to be a part of this milestone and to catch up with them years after their big day!

We honored their roots and love of Philadelphia by hitting some iconic spots like the Art Museum, City Hall, and Race Street Pier for mini golf! It was such a fun date night vibe where we explored a city that means so much to them! My favorite was ending the evening with mini golf and seeing their competitive yet supportive sides come through! These two have a passion for sports, so a bit of friendly competition is always a good time with them.

Their Love Story

Rachel and Ty met in college during Ty’s recruitment visit for basketball. While watching Rachel practice with her team in the gym, he felt an instant connection and knew she was someone special!

On that visit, Ty sported pink sneakers and cleverly changed his Facebook profile picture to showcase them before sending Rachel a friend request, making it easy for her to recognize him. They started getting to know each other while he was still in Virginia, and soon enough, their friendship blossomed into a romance, which seemed like it was straight out of the movie “Love and Basketball.” During their engagement session, they embraced their passion for the sport and movie by donning their uniforms!

Ty proposed in the very gym where they first met during homecoming. With their families, friends, coaches, and teammates hidden behind drapes, he and Rachel played a quick game of basketball. When he gave the cue, everyone burst out, cheering, just as she turned to find him on one knee with a ring in hand!

They never anticipated facing some of their toughest challenges before reaching their wedding day. Ty survived a stroke that unexpectedly came on the day of their engagement session. Seeing his fight and determination to not only walk down the aisle on their wedding day, but also to take on life beyond his stoke has been inspiring beyond words. Rachel was there to support him every step of the way as his best friend and partner through it all. It’s been an honor to be a part of their love story from their engagement through their 5-year anniversary!
