Their Session: Dumbarton Oaks Museum, Washington DC

This dreamy Dumbarton Oaks Engagement Session was so incredible this fall! We were lucky enough to catch all of the foliage still in bloom, which made for gorgeous garden photos! From Dumbarton Oaks Museum to the adorable Georgetown streets to The Capitol, Cate and AJ were such a blast in front of the camera! It was so cool getting to see parts of their city and hear all about their love story.

A huge reason why I love engagement sessions is because of the time we get to know each other better before the wedding! Along with getting more comfortable in front of the camera, we get to chat about life and wedding planning, and see beautiful locations! Cate and AJ are so sweet and silly together, and I just loved photographing all these precious moments!

Their Love Story

These two cuties met online, and Cate says she only went out because she was trying not to lose a bet before moving back to Cleveland (later that week) from DC! Long story short, she still lives in DC! 🙂 Cate thought AJ was adorable, intimidating, insanely smart, and sophisticated when they met!

They told me all about their proposal! AJ asked Cate to go out for brunch, which she thought was odd since they claim to not really be brunch people! While they were on their way, AJ suggested that they stop by the DC War Memorial where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom! They had to wait in a bit of a line before it was their turn to take a photo! AJ had hired a photographer to secretly catch the moment, and he was blending in with the others in line! They remembered that it was a 97-degree day and that they were waiting for about 15 minutes before it was their time! Once they were up, AJ dropped down to one knee to pretend to tie his shoe, and Cate was looking all around instead of down wondering why now to tie his shoe after waiting in a long line! Once she realized, it was an obvious YES and the photographer caught the moment in the memorial so perfectly! 🙂 SO cute! Next up, they’re tying the knot in the same spot!

It was SO special getting to capture your love during such an exciting milestone in your lives! I loved getting to explore Washington DC with you two and see so many beautiful locations! I seriously can’t wait to do it all again for your big day!! Congrats love birds!
