Their session: Verona Park, NJ

Absolutely obsesssssed with this Fall Verona Park engagement session that is SO cute and SO chic! Deandra and Jason were such a little Autumn dream together. Deandra has absolutely amazing style, from her home decor to her fashion sense! She really led the way with the ideas for the session and their picture-perfect outfits! Her vision for our session was so clear: “I really want to do two looks – one casual, one fancy! Both with an outdoorsy background, I LOVE golden hour tall grass fields – DREAM! I am thinking the casual one in a field setting and fancy one by some body of water” With that in mind, we were able to narrow down locations and I think we nailed it!

Verona Park has such a great variety of locations so it happens to be one of my favorite engagement session options in North New Jersey. There are lots of “nature spots” in the park and this beautiful stone bridge that adds a little bit of a chic contrast in photos. It was so nice getting to know Deandra and Jason as we explored all of it!

Their love story

Deandra & Jason have known each other since middle school but it wasn’t until college that they started dating! In a freshman class, Deandra made a dessert called “dirt” that he loved. She promised she would make it for him again and when she moved back after graduating, she kept her word with two big bowls of it. She said, “He came to pick it up and the next day I got a text that he was all out and needs more. When he would stop by to pick up his bowl(s) of dirt, we would go for long rides just talking, picking out our favorite houses in town, and listening to country music.” A sweet beginning to a friendship that became much more!

As Deandra says, Jason “is HORRIBLE at keeping secrets” but he managed to surprise her with the proposal! Newport, RI had become a special place to them as they would drive up to spend long weekends there in the summers. During the pandemic, they planned a last-minute trip! Before they hit the road home, Jason wanted to walk the Cliff Walk one last time. Deandra didn’t pack an extra “walking outfit” so she threw on his XL pajama shirt. Thinking maybe he was up to something, Deandra told him “I don’t like my outfit, I don’t want to take any pictures…I am not doing my make-up and hair either.” But he was calm and cool with his reply… “Dee, we are just going for a walk.” So she was totally surprised when he DID propose on that walk! How sweet that he chose a place so special to them?! Bonus points for the major surprise!

You are just so sweet together it makes me melt! It was so much fun spending time together and getting to know you both. Watching your love shine in front of the camera as the sun set around us was so special, and I know you’ll be absolute pros with the photos on your big day at Shadowbrook! I’ll just be here counting down the days!!! Can’t wait!!!!!
