Their Session: Shackamaxon & Johnny Brenda’s, Fishtown, PA

Calling all Philly couples, this Fishtown pizza and beer engagement session is for you! We tied in Erin and Nate’s love of pizza and beer by hitting up Shackamaxon Pizza and Johnny Brenda’s nearby to where they live here in Philadelphia! Recreating a go-to date night is always a favorite idea for an engagement session. It makes it so much for personal and meaningful when you look back on these photos!

Erin and Nate are such a fun duo who truly could not stop laughing with one another! It’s so special to see how they light up when they’re together! From how comfortable these two are in front of the camera to the fun locations in Philadelphia, we truly captured this exciting time in their lives! We just missed their sweet furbaby, Phoebe, who had to stay home (next time ;))!

When Erin first reached out, she mentioned that she loved “the beautiful, natural, candid shots” she saw on my website and Instagram! *Cue my heart melting!!* She said it’s “exactly what I want for my engagement session and wedding day! You can feel the couple’s love and joy through your photos, and that is what is most important to me, even more so than the location and theme.” If you scroll down through these photos, I’d say we caught that candid, joyful love pretty well! <3

They wanted their love for Philadelphia, more specifically Fishtown, to shine through in these photos! They moved here together right after college and this place is so intimately connected to their love story.

Their Love Story

I looove hearing all about how my couple’s met and got engaged! Erin told me, “Nate and I started dating when we were very young – 17 and 18! We felt connected instantly, started dating only a few weeks after we met, and have been together ever since.

The unique part of our relationship is we have been together for so many of life’s major milestones – prom (!!!), finding ourselves in college, moving away from home together, falling in love with Philly (my favorite era of ours), grad school, getting adult jobs, being parents to our dog Phoebe (the center of our universe), and sooo much more!

We’ve seen each other at our best and our worst, we’ve given each other the space to grow as individuals, and have grown so much as a couple over the years. Our wedding day will mark 10 years together, and I cannot wait to share that special day with Nate, and all the people who have been there along the way.”

Their Proposal

Their proposal was simple and private, which is exactly what Erin had wanted! In January, they always take a mini-vacation to break up the monotony of the cold winter months. This year, they booked an Airbnb at Rehobeth Beach in Delaware, which is already a very special place since they’re both from DE and have made so many memories at this beach together.

Erin said she had a feeling an engagement was coming. Since they know each other so well, she could tell he had been acting a little secretive in the week leading up to the engagement!

She said, “After brunch, Nate asked if I wanted to walk along the beach with him, it was FREEZING COLD (like 15 degrees!!!) but both of our adrenaline was pumping so hard the cold didn’t even phase us! It actually made the day even more memorable! Halfway into our walk Nate took the ring out of his pocket and got on one knee! I jumped up the air with excitement I was so happy it was finally happening! Time really did stand still for a moment as I just took it all in – it was truly perfect! We were completely alone on the beach which was super romantic, and I snapped a selfie right afterward! It’s one of my favorite pictures ever because you can still see the tears in our eyes and the joy radiating off of us!”

MY HEART!!! Aren’t they amazing? I love seeing young love turn into a lifelong love story!

Erin & Nate,

Goshhhh, you two are SUCH a dream! I caught myself saying “I’m literally so obsessed” over and over in my head while I edited your gallery. I loved getting to hang out with you two here in Philadelphia and explore some fun new parts of where we all live! Thank you for being so playful, fun, and up for anything – your love shines through so beautifully! Can’t wait to celebrate your marriage at The Knowlton Mansion!
